I had the peaceful pleasure of spending a few days last week at a Benedictine Monastery in the picturesque little town of Guatapé, Colombia. Entering their interesting rhythm of prayer, biblical reading and silence can certainly be a mind-clarifying experience for anyone seeking to still and quiet their frenetically-working mind. The monks spend each of their evenly balanced spiritual days in chronic prayer, song, praise, contemplation, religious and spiritual literature, communal meals and doing practical work (such as making artisan marmalade, honey, harvesting almonds, running errands, cooking, cleaning and gardening).
