So three cheers to Lipski, his dog SPOT, the transformative power of public art and optimism!
The notable American sculptor, Donald Lipski, designed a colossal thirty-foot Dalmation, SPOT!, delicately balancing a donated yellow Toyota Prius NYC Taxi on the tip of its noble snout. This whimsical sculpture recently caught my attention as I made my way down to the East River for an evening of photography. I found it to be an incredibly curious work of art, something you're likelier to see at Burning Man than at a drab NYC hospital setting, but I quickly realized this illuminated sculpture was actually perfectly and playfully located in front of NYU Langone's new Hassenfeld Children's Hospital, perhaps providing countless patients countless smiles whilst in the dreadful midst of experiencing some of the grayest and most difficult physical situations of their young lives for decades to come. SPOT stands tall in an impressive state of balance, emanating a sense of playful equilibrium and inciting artistically-inspired excitement for all who pass by his spotted presence.
So three cheers to Lipski, his dog SPOT, the transformative power of public art and optimism!
