A giant Florida Gator gazes up at curious tourists. A ruby red gorilla pounds his barrel-sized chest as if he were declaring that he is kicking King-Kong to a forgotten curb. A solitary geometric wolf howls up at three Florida palm trees as a giant panda casually munches on a stick above a crowd of gawking tourists. The French sculptor, Richard Orlinski, set some of his wild animals loose on the busy streets of Miami Beach's Lincoln Road District just in time to welcome the international horde of contemporary art enthusiasts heading to Art Basel. Inspired by American pop culture artists such as Jeff Koons and Robert Indiana, Orlinski uses industrial materials to distinctively sculpt large-scale geometric wildlife expressing and symbolizing freedom, power and passion. The eye-popping open-air winter exhibit featured some of Orlinski's iconic pieces which were recently exhibited at the Avenue des Champs Elysee exhibition in Paris. This pop-art exhibit really popped out of Miami Beach's sun-drenched tropical backdrop. A perfect pairing of street art and setting.
